When I launched the Get Legally Speaking podcast three months ago, my aim was to empower the UK public to be able to access the right information that they need on the legal matters that are affecting them, I never in my wildest dreams thought we would go global! I am both delighted and astounded, when recent podcast statistics revealed that the Get Legally Speaking podcast is listened to in 13 countries and 75 different cities. If that wasn’t enough, Get Legally Speaking is also now supported by The Bar Council.
In 2018 the Law Society, Bar Council and Chartered Institute of Legal Executives released research into public attitudes to the justice system in England and Wales. It showed that justice is as important to most people as health and education, but sadly only 20 percent thought there was sufficient funding in place for those who need legal advice. So I am proud that Get Legally Speaking is being recognised for the difference it is making, and therefore due to popular demand I have ramped up the podcast publishing to weekly, instead of monthly. We are now regarded as an ‘exciting weekly legal trailblazer.’
Back to being global, our top ten cities worldwide where we have listeners are Tel Aviv; Mountain View, California; Cairo; Dubai; San Jose, California; Alhambra Arizona; Washington; Sao Paulo; Istanbul; and Punjab, Pakistan. While our top countries are the US; Israel; Malaysia; UAE; Turkey; Australia; Egypt; Ireland and Bahamas. Interestingly here in the UK we are listened to nationwide from Leeds; to Merthyr Tydfil,
Wales; London; Newbury; Maidenhead; Solihull; Reigate, Rutherglen in Scotland and Bletchley to name just a few of the places.
I have so many exciting episodes coming up for you; we kicked off 2020 on the topic employment law, with David Berkley QC, the Head of Chambers at 3 Paper Buildings. We know that this is an important topic for many, as people headed back to work. David and I give people the clarity on difficult work situations.
While our next episode is focused on ‘Consumer Law and Your Rights’, with senior barrister Tim Sampson from Lamb Chambers who deals with disputes in the High Court and in the County Courts. We as consumers need to be able to obtain accurate, unbiased information about the products and services we purchase. This enables us to make the best choices based on our interests, and it prevents us from being mistreated or misled by businesses. Consumer protection policies, laws and regulations help increase consumer welfare by ensuring that businesses can be held accountable.
Plus, now with the latest Whirlpool saga in the news, our ‘Consumer Law and Your Rights’ podcast is definitely timely. In this episode we explain what is meant by Statutory Rights; what is the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and importantly how it can protect you; what are your consumer rights - within 30 days, up to 60 days and 6 months; and why you should know about the Consumer Contracts Regulations Act 2013!
What can I say?!, but a big thank you for listening and supporting Get Legally Speaking and whether you are reading this while sitting in Chicago, Chennai or Canterbury please keep joining us, and do send in your questions, especially any questions that you may have on what topics you would like to hear Get Legally Speaking focusing on.
